SAFE KIDS HOSPITALS
Pediatric & Neonatal Care Excellence
Rescuing micro-preemies from 26 weeks and critically ill newborns with 24/7 on-site senior neonatologists, advanced HFOV ventilators, and zero-infection protocols.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Safe Kids Hospitals is a premier Level 4 regional referral center dedicated to the survival and long-term health of critically ill newborns and premature infants. Led by senior consultant neonatologists Dr. D Bhanu Prakash and Dr. S. Karimunnisa, our nursery provides round-the-clock intensive monitoring, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), therapeutic hypothermia cooling for birth asphyxia, and individualized developmental care.

Step-by-Step Multidisciplinary Healing for Vulnerable Infants
Immediate thermal protection, delayed cord clamping, gentle T-piece resuscitation, and early CPAP in our state-of-the-art delivery suites.
Continuous multiparameter vital monitoring, umbilical venous catheter access, targeted surfactant therapy, and sterile parenteral nutrition.
Kangaroo Mother Care (skin-to-skin contact), maternal breast milk feeding, and active parental bedside involvement as soon as stability is achieved.
Safe transition to open cribs, oral breastfeeding establishment, and structured post-discharge neurodevelopmental milestones surveillance.
Babies born before 32 weeks gestation requiring specialized thermal, respiratory, nutritional, and neuro-protective incubator support.
Surfactant deficiency in premature lungs causing alveolar collapse, grunting, and rapid labored breathing.
Markedly elevated serum bilirubin levels that pose risks of acute bilirubin encephalopathy or kernicterus if untreated.
Life-threatening bloodstream infections in newborns presenting with temperature instability, lethargy, and poor perfusion.
Brain injury resulting from oxygen deprivation around the time of birth requiring immediate therapeutic cooling.
Ultra-fast gentle lung ventilation delivering tiny tidal volumes to protect fragile preemie lung tissue from barotrauma.
Direct endotracheal instillation of natural surfactant followed by non-invasive continuous positive airway pressure.
Automated servo-controlled cooling to 33.5°C for 72 hours to dramatically reduce neuronal injury in birth asphyxia.
PICC lines and umbilical catheters delivering sterile amino acids, lipids, and glucose to ensure positive newborn growth.
High-intensity narrow-band blue LED phototherapy units and rapid exchange transfusions for acute hyperbilirubinemia.
A Level 4 NICU is the highest accreditation in neonatal medicine. In addition to caring for complex preemies, a Level 4 unit possesses pediatric surgical suites, advanced ventilation like HFOV, and round-the-clock pediatric subspecialists on-site to handle surgical congenital anomalies and micro-preemies below 28 weeks.
Yes. At Safe Kids Hospitals, we maintain family-centered neonatal care. Parents have unrestricted visiting access, and as soon as the baby's vital parameters allow, mothers and fathers are encouraged to practice Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) skin-to-skin bonding.
Extremely premature infants cannot safely suckle or swallow yet. They receive nutrition either intravenously (TPN) or through a gentle, soft gastric tube (gavage feeding) using the mother's own expressed breast milk, which provides essential protective antibodies.
A baby is ready for discharge when they can consistently maintain normal body temperature in an open crib, coordinate suckle-swallow breathing to take full oral feeds, demonstrate steady weight gain, and experience zero episodes of apnea or desaturations.
Our unit follows strict zero-tolerance infection control: positive-pressure HEPA filtration, rigorous hand-hygiene scrub protocols, dedicated sterile central line insertion bundles, and closed incubator micro-environments.
